MGA: August 2021

July brought us two MGA sponsored golf events, the 27 Hole Championships and the just completed Mirror Pond Invitational.  Regarding the 27 Hole Championships, congratulations goes out to the following overall flight winners: First Flight – Tyler Juhola & Kyle Jensen; Second Flight – Ron Basada & Marshall Bex; Third Flight – Randy Crossley & Eric Crossley.

A reminder that we still have a few big tournaments planned to round out our golf season. The MGA Club Championship is a 3 round individual stroke play tournament slated for Thursday, Aug. 19, Saturday, Aug. 21, and Sunday, Aug. 22. Deadline to sign up is Wednesday, Aug. 18 at 5 p.m. Entry fee is $25. And our final MGA event of the year is the Alan Winchester Memorial Member/Member, slated for Thursday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 2. This is a fun 2-man best ball tournament in honor of long-time club member Alan Winchester. Entry fee for the Winchester Member/Member is $60 per player which includes a lunch and a dinner. The stag dinner will include a “last call” for the Calcutta.

Thursday men’s day games have been a good success with a lot of participation.  The men’s day results and points race leaders can be found on the new MGA web page. Your current points race leaders through July 22nd are: Top Gross – Andrew Vijarro with 75 points. He is closely followed by Brandon Kearney with 70 points. Top Net – Chip Cleveland with 54 points. He is closely followed by Jim Keller with 48 points.

The MGA congratulates the following 2021 Hole in One celebrants:  Joe Murphy, June 6, on Hole #3 hitting from the white tees with a 9 iron. This is Joe’s sixth HIO; Larry White, June 27, on Hole #3 hitting from the gold tees with a 9 iron. This is Larry’s third HIO; Jeff Atkinson, July 4 (Firecracker Open), on Hole #6 hitting from the blue tees with a 4 Hybrid. This is Jeff’s very first HIO.

Your MGA board members have received a number of complaints/concerns about our fellow member inattentiveness to basic course condition maintenance.  Please rake the bunker after hitting and leave the rake mostly in the bunker and aimed toward the center with the end of the handle just outside the bunker.  Regarding ball marks on the green and fringe, let’s all follow the slogan “make one, fix two.”

Thursday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. is our annual fall meeting and awards evening which includes dinner. This evening is for MGA members only and no guests.  Look for a RSVP request coming out shortly.
