LGA: August 2021

A big thank you to Judy Boulet, Anita Brown, and Nancy Hakala for planning and coordinating the LGA Member/Guest tournament on July 14. Monte and Freddie and the MSA staff were there for us, helping to make a fun one-day event. Janice Pratte and Sally Neeb handled registration. And we appreciated the valet volunteers, Bill Ross, Dennis Olsen, Dan Ricker, Paul Roberts, and Jim Noel. The course was, as usual, in excellent shape, and the lunch buffet was delicious!

Beth Whitney and Phyllis Wallace re-started an event on July 18 that was an old favorite. Their “Nine and Wine” was a great success! The statue of the early 20th Century golfing lady that has been in the ladies locker room for a long time, needs a name. Beth reports the names and stories concocted about the lady at the above event were hilarious.

The annual President’s Cup was held on Wednesday, July 21. Using Stableford scoring, three flights played from either the gold or gold/green tees. The overall winner, scoring +5, was Linda Kammerich. Congratulations! Her name will go on the perpetual trophy. The nine-hole flight of the President’s Cup was held on Wednesday, July 28.

Coming Soon!! The Member/Member tournament will be played on consecutive Wednesdays, Aug. 4 and 11. Flights are again being offered from both gold and gold/green tees. The first round on the 4th will involve tee times for players. The second round on the 11th will be a shotgun. Sounds fun!

The LGA Club Championship will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 18. The competitors who sign up for the Championship flight will play from the gold/white tees that day and will be joined by other flights on the weekend, Aug. 21–22. Flights will soon be announced.

Wednesday, Aug. 25 will be “Blind Nine, with a Beat the Pro component” and a shotgun start, followed by an LGA General Meeting. More information coming soon.

Hope you are looking forward to the Pine Cone Classic! This is the LGA’s annual 18-hole Member/Guest Tournament. It will take place starting the Sept. 10, for a practice round and most likely a side game or two. Saturday and Sunday, the 11th and 12th will be 2 rounds of formats to be announced. Your partner must not be a Bend Golf Club golf member. Pine Cone Classic teams that have a handicap differential of more than 10 strokes will be adjusted. It is a fun event, so line up your partner! More details will be available soon.

I am asking for your help. Please consider volunteering for an LGA office for next year’s LGA Board of Governors. Offices open for the coming year include LGA Vice President, Assistant 18-Hole Golf Governor, Assistant 9-Hole Golf Governor, Treasurer, and Hospitality Chair. If you have questions, please contact me!

LGA President
