Happy Birthday America! I am looking forward to celebrating the holiday, as well as celebrating the lifting of the COVID-19 restrictions (I anticipate as I write this that the restrictions will be lifted by the time you read this…fingers crossed!). It is going to so great to see smiling faces and to engage in what feels like “normal” social and professional interactions once again.
This newsletter finds successful completion of the Ladies’ Invitational as well as The Egan for the men. Congratulations to all the participants and a huge thank you to all of the volunteers. Thank you to Monte and his team in the golf shop and, as always, thank you to Scott and his team for presenting all tournament golfers with the best course in Central Oregon. Congratulations are also in order to Bend’s team for the Deschutes Cup – way to claw your way into the finals, then completely kick you know what for the win!
We had our club’s annual member meeting in late June. It was fairly well attended, and we provided opportunity to answer questions from members. It is nice to have an annual meeting where we are talking about fun opportunities for club improvements instead of surviving economic conditions. A summary of those Q&As will be sent out soon (if it has not already).
The biggest issue that I see on the club’s horizon is water and the drought affecting our community. Irrigation water is already restricted and will likely cease for the year by mid to late July. We will then rely entirely on our well to maintain the course. You can anticipate seeing some areas not necessarily in play a little more dry than normal; I am confident Scott is going to do everything in his power to keep the course beautiful and playable while also being mindful of the drought conditions facing Central Oregon. This is the second year in a row we have faced severe irrigation restrictions, so making sure we have our water protected out into future years is critical.
Lots of fun events during July. Keep an eye out for your golf shop reminders and other information in this month’s Tradition.
Enjoy this summer and all of the traditions it brings to you and your family. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and go have fun!
