April was a fast-paced month for our association, with new members joining and golfing with us. Many thanks to the mentors who are showing those women the ropes. I hope all of the new members have as much fun playing golf as I have! Please note the Wednesday afternoon tee time block for ladies who want to play later in the day.
I would like everyone to know how much work Susanna Ross has done for our club and the LGA; she helped create our survey along with Patty Wiseman, and then worked with Laurie Hoyez to reorganize the club’s website. Nice job, Susanna.
Now that our golf season is off to a great start, with 2 holes-in-one, (Debbie Kerr on April 9 and Pat Murrell on April 24), and several Wednesdays of ladies’ golf, I’d like to acknowledge our pro shop staff for their hard work with Debbi Smith, Joanne Christensen, Patty Wiseman, and Janice Murrell, our golf governors and assistants. As Debbi has mentioned, “it takes a village.”
Our first mixer of the year was Wednesday, April 28. We had a nice number of participants for the 9-hole event, followed by an optional lunch and our first General Meeting. I am looking forward to playing with more of our new members.
COVID-19 restrictions are still in place, but we continue to hope and plan for upcoming events. Hopefully, we will be able to host a Spring Luncheon on May 19th. Save that date, and cross fingers we can do it. Sylvia Collins has a theme and a plan!
It is not too soon to sign up for our 55th Ladies Invitational. This 3 day tournament ( practice one day, tournament play two days) includes a format with both individual stroke play and team play. It is flighted, so if you’re nervous playing with a single digit handicapper don’t worry. You could play with someone whose handicap is close to yours. Tee prizes and awards, and meeting new friends are good incentive. Tournament sign ups are on June’s calendar. Check it out. AND we need volunteers to help with various tasks. Watch for sign up sheets later this month.
Sylvia Collins is also helping to organize the Nine Hole Visitation on June 18. Golfers from other local clubs love coming to Bend Golf Club for this event.
The pandemic continues to bring changes in our routines, but so many of us are fully vaccinated , which should bring those case numbers down. We managed to get through last season; we can do this!
