‘Tis the season to reflect on the year 2020. I certainly will not belabor the point about how unprecedented the year has been, and continues to be, because we are all living though it daily. Instead, I encourage all of us to appreciate what we have — family, friends, work, retirement, health, and of course our amazing golf course and facilities!
As I write this message, we remain under pretty intense COVID restrictions, and I do not see that changing in the near future. By now, we would normally be seeing the clubhouse decked out with holiday cheer, but it just is not the case at the moment. That said, we can continue to support the club with holiday shopping in the pro shop and ordering takeout from the kitchen. So, let’s not dwell on what 2020 could have been and should have been and let’s focus on wrapping up the rest of the year with gusto and merriment!
Our club has a long history of recognizing the year-long efforts of our employees through the End-of-the-Year Employee Appreciation Fund. You should all have received a separate communication about that fund. The message highlights some of the many things our employees have done to enhance our experience during 2020 – such as the extraordinary number of rounds on an amazing golf course, remaining open to the maximum extent possible and offering convenient and friendly takeout while other area establishments were closed. Contributing to the fund is easy (follow the link above or just contact Karen Goodman to have it placed on your monthly bill) and help the board meet its $20,000 goal.
I am looking forward to welcoming our new Head Professional Monte Hanson in January. I was able to meet Monte when he was in Bend interviewing and I was instantly struck by his “fit” with Bend Golf Club. We had so many qualified candidates that I truly feel we were able to pick the best. Please read more about Monte further in this month’s Tradition and watch for information early next year about an official welcome event.
In closing, I tried to come up with something encouraging and inspiring but instead I was struck by these wise words from Buddy the Elf: “There’s room for everyone on the Nice List.” Be on the Nice List!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Joyous New Year!
President, BGC Board of Directors
