More About Monte Hanson, Our New Head Pro

We’re excited to have Monte Hanson joining us as our new head golf pro!

Monte will lead our golf operation with infectious enthusiasm and professionalism. He’s committed to servicing our membership and creating a positive vibe on the practice tee, in the pro shop and on the golf course.

Monte has been the head pro at the prestigious Bernardo Heights Country Club in San Diego for the past 20 years. He told us during one of his interviews that his biggest challenge in moving to Bend would be saying goodbye to “his” Bernardo Heights membership. That comment shows the level of commitment and attentiveness that he will bring to our membership.

He exudes a love of people and of the game of golf.  He will manage and mentor our staff to provide best-in-class service. He has a passion for staging and administering tournaments (and he has a cool idea for a new one to introduce here). He’s a skilled teacher, with an extraordinary track record of success with junior golfers. Monte has taught and helped steer the development of 18 young people who have earned NCAA Division 1 scholarships, including Xander Schauffele, currently the eighth-ranked player in the world. But even those of us who are past our college days will benefit from Monte’s teaching abilities. Part of our interview process was having our finalists each conduct a clinic for our Search Committee – Monte was even able to help Amy Anderson’s putting!

Monte, his wife Jeri, and their two daughters, Hattie and Harper (pictured below), are looking forward to moving to Central Oregon as soon as possible. We hope to have Monte on board with us in January.

I am a member of the Bernardo Heights CC. Monte will be missed at BHCC. On behalf of the ladies of the Half Rounder Club, I want to wish Monte and his family the very best in their new life has to offer.
