Golf Pro: June 2020

As I am writing this article for the membership, we have reached over 9,300 rounds, so if you feel the course has been just a bit busy, you are correct!

We are grateful to have been approved for Phase II here in Deschutes County. This means we will have sand and seed bottles, coolers, and rakes back in use as well as regular flagsticks. We will not have towels yet, and scorecards will not be collected. We will still provide the scorecards, pencils, ball-mark repair tools, and tees in prepackaged bags. There are still restrictions we need to follow, and we will continue to respect the social distancing and personal space of others.

The temporary sand trap “lift and place ruling” during the COVID Phase I will not be in effect once we have rakes back on Tuesday, June 9. Please make sure to post your score on the GHIN site/app, and if you can, please post hole-by-hole.

We will continue to have a starter on the tee box running the tee. The demand for tee times is still at an amazing high and we appreciate you working with our starters for check-in and communication. Because of the busy course, we are manipulating the times and working golfers in the most efficient way we can.  The starter runs the tee, which in turn helps our golfers get out on the course, keeps our pace decent, and prevents confusion for tee times. We appreciate you working with our starters and your communications with the shop.

Bag storage is returning starting Wednesday June 10. We ask that you have your bag and/or pull cart very clearly marked and labeled with your name since we have rearranged the bag room and are more organized than ever! Please drop your clubs and/or pull carts off near the breezeway/MSA area between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the shop 541-382-7437 or email us at

Our golf shop staff is motivated, has been hired for great attitudes and demeanor, and we welcome many new faces to our work crew. We have some extremely bright young people with us and hope you take the time to say hello. One of our newest hires is Mike Chappell, who hopes to become my next PGA Apprentice and is also a club repair technician. Being a golf professional is his dream job, and we hope to lift him to his potential.

Please look for announcements on upcoming tournaments for the club. We have been working on tournament plans and trying to come up with workable itineraries. We are excited that events will continue, even if they are not “business as usual.” Keeping tradition alive is one of our main goals.

New merchandise will come in as production from different manufacturers returns to full speed. Many special orders and other items have been delayed from the recent economic shutdown. If you have questions about any special orders, or would like to place any special orders, please email us at and we will get those orders in! Look for emails on upcoming sales for this month, and information on Demo Days as we are grabbing the first brands and dates we are given to get our reps out here!

THANK YOU BEND GOLF CLUB MEMBERS. You are keeping the proud history and tradition of excellence alive and well.

9300 rounds seems like a lot.
