MGA: December 2019

Snow abounds, so it’s time for our course to mend and our golfers to redirect their golfing interest to another venue. Have you used our golf simulator yet? Try it, it’s fun and offers the challenge of playing many different golf courses. Use ForeTees to reserve the day/time you want to use it and have fun!

With Christmas is just a few weeks away, I am happy to announce that both your MGA has teamed with the LGA to support the local Deschutes County chapter of the “Toys for Tots (TFT)” program. Collection boxes have been placed in numerous areas of our club where you can donate a new, unwrapped toy or gift. Your donations will be delivered to Ms. Jody Shaffer, the Deschutes Country TFT’s Coordinator for collection and distribution. PLEASE SUPPORT THIS PROGRAM so you can share the feeling of giving at Christmas time with a less privileged child in Deschutes County. Thank you!

With 2020 right around the corner your board has again set forth the mandate to establish better lines of communication with its members. Input and publishing this article are but one means to achieve this. However, I won’t rely on this one media alone. I plan regular publication, using email, of board decisions, events and projects. Our Tradition article, board meeting minutes and MGA e-mails will also be posted on our MGA webpage.

Importantly, a major goal will be to solicit and welcome input and recommendations from you, our MGA members. Please contact myself or any officer on our board if you have an item or idea that you believe would be of benefit to our MGA.

Another is to enhance the enjoyment and camaraderie of our golfing experience. Our aim is to provide innovative and entertaining golf events, golf events that are fun, and with spirited, yet fair competition. We encourage everyone to play in more events in 2020, no matter how low or high the handicap, and hope improvements we plan will markedly increase participation.

Our new slate of MGA board officers for 2020 includes:
President: Scott Hakala
Vice President: Kai Kuwata
Secretary: Doug Rude
Treasurer: Kevin Freihoefer
Board of Directors liaison: Steve Sheppard
Board Directors: Mark Garcia, Larry Hoyez, Jim Keller

2020 MGA Committees:

Our MGA board will be working on many issues over the winter months, including but not limited to the following:

  • MGA dues restructure
  • Amend existing MGA bylaws
  • Standup of the BGC Tournament Committee (TC) – charter development, committee membership, and MGA/LGA golf tournament activities checklist/spreadsheet development
  • Enhancements to Men’s Day Golf – work up schedule for a once a month outing where we give our MGA membership a chance to play with other golfers outside their normal
golf group. Possible “A/B/C/D” Mixers, 4-Person Scrambles, Shambles, etc. We’ll work with Emily and the golf shop and come up with some good events we can play on a
monthly basis. If any of you have specific suggestions, please forward them to us for review, consideration and discussion.
  • Men’s golf excursions to other golfing locations in the northwest
  • Continue to improve upon our new member orientation practices.
  • Increase support to the LGA.

Our next MGA meeting is Dec. 18, 2019. If you have an item you’d like presented or discussed please contact our Secretary, Doug Rude at drude44@gmail.com. Thank you, and here’s wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years!
