Wow! It is 10 degrees this morning with a forecasted daily high of 32 degrees. Unless you have the genetic makeup of a polar bear or came here from Minnesota, there was no surprise the golf course was closed for play. There will still be some good golf days in the calendar year, but the end of the golf season is near. Time to dream of the warmer days of spring and return of the snowbirds.
We welcomed new Board members at the October meeting. Thanks to each of them for their willingness to serve. The board will continue to chart a course to keep the club in a strong financial position to allow investments to improve the member experience and to compete in the crowded golf market in Central Oregon. A special thank you to outgoing directors Dave Baker and Mark Hagenbaugh for their contributions over the past three years.
We are moving into the budget season for the next fiscal year. Committees will be communicating with management their needs and wants. If you have suggestions for improving the club, now is the time to share your ideas. As is always the case, there will be many good projects competing for available funds. We are committed to giving deferred maintenance a front-burner status when considering which projects to fund.
The steel structure and siding on the cart barn are nearly complete. The rooftop cupolas and other cosmetic features are in progress. Next on the schedule is completion of the electrical work and paving of the approach areas North and South of the structure. The driveway work to meet ADA compliance is progressing.
We are in a holding pattern to begin work on the utility building in the golf maintenance area. We are working with the City to clear several open permits from projects in past years. We anticipate the utility building project will move forward soon.
As the golf season winds down, I hope you will take advantage of the inside activities available at the club. The Dickens dinner and pro shop open house on Friday, December 6, is one of a number of traditional events. Hope to see you there. Until next time, Happy Thanksgiving!
President, BGC Board of Directors
