LGA: November 2019

We had one more exciting LGA competition on Oct. 2, The Celebration Cup Finale. Play was reduced to 9 holes due to a frost delay, but that did not dampen the competitiveness of the teams. These teams comprised ladies that accrued the most points over the summer by playing in LGA weekly play and tournaments. Team Eielson narrowly beat Team Gahr for bragging rights. For nine-holers, Sylvia Collins’ Team tied Judy Drakes’ team for gross, but won net by one tenth of a point. Very fun for everyone. We all enjoyed the delicious lunch that all Celebration Cup players shared after golf.

Emily Anderson, our new head pro, has been busy. We want to help her in any way we can. Just a word of encouragement is nice. The LGA Halloween celebration was fun and ghoulish. Several ladies went all out on their costumes. The winning costume was very creepy, worn by Louise Malinowski. She won $25.00 in sweeps. Congrats those who dared to imbibe in the witches’ brew. It was able to warm us up.

Our normal pre-party golf was cancelled due to very cold conditions that closed the course. We had our last LGA general meeting of 2019 during the festivities. The annual awards for most improved, eclectic, chip-ins, and birdies were awarded. Our most improved golfer was Phyllis Wallace. Congratulations!! Your name will be engraved on the trophy outside the pro shop. The results of all the winners will be posted soon on the LGA website.

I presented the work of the LGA/MGA focus work group. We have been meeting since September. We discussed the positives and negatives of the tournaments being put on by both LGA and MGA. We found that there are several organizational, communication, planning, and execution aspects to tournaments that could be improved across the board. We set out the idea to create structured workplans and timelines to follow. To oversee the implementation , guiding, monitoring of each tournaments planning, there will be a BGC tournament committee set up. This committee with be chaired by Emily Anderson, with three members from LGA and MGA. We have already set the 2020 golf calendar. The committee positions with be appointed by Emily. This structure should help improve the participation and quality of our 2020 tournaments.

We also nominated and elected our 2020 LGA board. Returning members are:

  • Karen Stanard, President
  • Julie Bennett, Secretary
  • Debbie Kerr, Treasurer
  • Nancy Hakala, Social
  • Jeannie Adkisson, Golf Governor

Newly elected are:

  • Nancy Eldredge, V.P.
  • Phyllis Wallace, Hospitality
  • Patty Wiseman, Nine Hole Golf Governor
  • Debbi Smith, Assistant 18 Hole Golf Governor

We were all sworn in by Kay Miller. I am very proud of these women for taking on the responsibilities of the above offices. We will work very hard to make the best LGA we can.

Respectfully Submitted,
Karen Stanard
LGA President
