MGA: July 2019

Here we are in July, the heart of the golfing season. A time of the year when we can rely (usually) on the weather and test our skills against the cruel, fickle game of golf.

Here at Bend Golf Club, participation in our tournaments is off the charts. The recent Spring Best Ball event on June 15 had 108 participants, an increase of 24 percent over last year. Entries for our premier Member-Guest event in July are also looking strong.
Our fine course, the pro shop staff and more communications, I believe, are the reasons for the increases. For sure, it was fun after the last event to see everyone trading stories, enjoying good food, and having fun.

The July Member-Guest Invitational begins with a practice round on Thursday, July 11, followed by two days of best ball competition.Special features include:

  • Optional par 3 contest
  • Titleist/Footjoy credit of $100 for every player
  • Putting contest
  • Optional horse race
  • Great food and refreshments
  • A lot of camaraderie

Joe Murphy, Bob Brubaker, and Steve Badger

The Bend Senior’s team competition on June 6 was very close except for these guys. Joe Murphy, Bob Brubaker, and Steve Badger (pictured above) accumulated 160 Stableford points way ahead of the pack. I will have to remember to not pair these three up again. Second place went to Jay Bennett, Rick Colletto and Jack Bagocus.

Other items:

  • Moving the nines is still under discussion, no decision in the foreseeable future.
  • Annual Board Meeting on June 26 was well attended. State of the club is healthy, both financially and operationally, but still need to be frugal to continue positive trend. Minutes available online. I strongly encourage reading to stay current with our club.
  • A survey is planned to evaluate the June best ball event. In the meantime, anyone with positive or negative feedback, please send to me at: hakaladuo@bendbroadband.com.
