If you are like me, your nose is pressed against a cold window itching to get those sticks out and whack that little ball around the grass. I know, patience. Spring, of course, is tantalizing in our town. One day is golden, the next not so much.
Let’s hope for some gold as our first two golf events are just around the corner: the Bend Masters and the Spring Invitational Best Ball Tournament.
The Bend Masters will be Saturday, April 13. It is a 2-Man Best Ball 18-hole tournament. Cost is $100 per team. Register for this event in the Golf Shop. Cutoff for final entry is Thursday, April 11 at 5 p.m. On Friday, April 12, we have two special events:
- Par 3, 2-Man Best Ball Contest, 3 p.m.
- Draw for Masters pro for your team. Food and beverage provided.
The Friday evening festivities for this event are always well-received and promotes camaraderie and a competitive spirit among participants.
The MGA kickoff meeting for the year will take place on the same Saturday at 9 a.m. To entice you to attend, a delectable breakfast will be served.
The meeting will include:
- An overview of the 2019 MGA budget
- New initiatives the board is pursuing
- 2019 MGA tournament schedule
- An open forum for discussion and Q&A.
After the breakfast meeting, there will be time to hit the range before the 11 a.m. shotgun start. Our second tournament, the Spring Invitational, is an 18-hole, 2-player best ball event, that includes lunch and free beer provided by Immersion Brewery. This tournament is limited to the first 60 teams and takes place April 27.
Entry fees are:
- Member-Member Team $120
- Member-Guest Team $135
- Guest-Guest Team $150
Entry Deadline is April 25. Additional information on handicap adjustments, format, and flight criteria are on the website.
Your board wants to extend their appreciation for your support to approve outdated bylaws. Our new bylaws establish three committees, each led by a chairman with volunteer members. The committees are:
- Tournament Committee – John Thorsnes, Chairman. Committee members are Mark Garcia,
Larry Gahr, Lindsay Wallace and Sam McKee
- Hospitality/Orientation Committee – Brian Brown, Chairman. Committee members are Rich
Gagne, Tom Johnson, Bill Ross, and Mark Garcia (as required)
- Communications/Information – Jim Bradbury, Chairman. Committee member, Jay Bennett
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the MGA members who volunteered to participate on these committees. I want to extend my deep gratitude to Brian Brown who has aggressively taken on the task to welcome new golf members to our MGA. It is our goal that we meet with new male golf members within 7-10 days after they join.
The last item I want to discuss is that a “Pace of Play” policy is coming. A draft policy has been given to both the MGA and LGA Board of Directors for review and comment. We’ll provide more information on this critically important item when available.
In closing, I just want to ensure that if you have concerns, questions, or items you would like your board to address, please forward them to our Secretary, Doug Rude, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Until next month, thank you and keep the faith, snow melts and we can take our nose off that window!
